I contracted for this job on 7/25/2022 to have 2 wall to wall, ceiling to floor bookcases installed in 2 of my bedrooms. I was given an install date of 10/07/2022.
On 7/25/2022 I paid half the contract as requested. On 10/07/2022 they came to install the shelving units as described in the contract.
However, when they arrived noting was right. To begin with they were missing one panel to complete one of the rooms shelving units. I was told it would be in the next day.
I called the office and told them I would not pay the balance of the 2nd room until all the panels were in and it was being installed, but I would pay for the one they were working on that day. They gave me the total due on the first unit and the installers started to work on the one unit that they had all the parts for. They ran into a measuring problem. The Rep who measured for the unit was off by 8 inches side to side and 8 inches for the set of 8 cubbies I had installed under my tv. So, my shelves are 8 inches shorter, and my cubbies had to be 10 x 10 instead of the 12 x 12 I was to have. But when all was done the installer had done a wonder job.
I was expecting the other room to be done the next day. I kept calling 3 times a day to see when this room could be done. Every call was “it should be in tomorrow.” After about a week of this excuse and getting more and more upset, I finally called and was told that the panel was in, and they would be there the next day. This was a week later.
The installers didn’t arrive until 5:00 the next day. I paid them the balance so they would start working on the unit. Part way through they let me know there was another measuring problem in the 2nd room.
This was a different crew and pardon my attitude, but they were Bozos. Had no idea what they were doing. To start they said they needed to take off a power plate so the unit would sit flush with the wall. I said they could take off the PLATE. But the installer went TOO FAR, He pulled out the whole power plug, and when I say PULLED that is what I mean. He broke the wires that were connected to the power block. (I have pictures of the power block where you can see where he yanked the wires right out of the wall)
He didn’t tell me at first. But later he said he needed some light in the room. I told him there was an overhead light in the room that the switch was by the door. He said the light wasn’t working.
I checked my breaker, and it wouldn’t stay on. I told him about it, to let him know he did something to the power in that room.
That is when I found out that he took the wires he pulled off the power unit and just pushed them back into the wall. This caused a power outage in that room. He did not tape or cap off the wires. Just rolled the wires up and shoved them back into the hole in the wall.
They continued from there to put up the unit. Thank goodness my breaker box did its job, or my house could have gone up in flames from their stupidity.
One of the installers then called a “friend, not an electrician” and asked what to do since he knew he had done “something wrong” because of no power in the room. His friend told him to tape up like color wires and the power should go back on. He did that but did not use electrical wire, he used scotch tape to tape the wires. It did put power back in the room, but at a costly mistake.
To get to the wires that needed to be taped, he had to take off a panel where the hole was he had made. Yes, he had put up the panel over the live wires in the wall. When he did this, he broke that panel, of course it was the one that was hard to get. big hole in the wall.
Then he realized he had to get another board. So that was another fight for another 3 or 4 days to get a replacement panel.
The next day after he pulled the wires out of the wall, I had to call an electrician to come and fix the mess the installers left with my wires. I have contacted the company many times to ask for a refund of the $313 that it cost to get the electrician here and to repair the mess. But I am getting no replies.
I have now paid in full for a half done and very stressful job.
