Summer is the season of citrus, from the scents we wear to the drinks we sip and these lemon French tip nails are bringing that same zingy premise to our talons...
French tip nails have been the go-to 2024 nail trend for months now, with what feels like endless iterations springing up almost weekly. In spring alone, we saw the likes of pink French tip nails trend along with other creamy pastels but summer it seems, promises a slightly sunnier look. Though perhaps the word juicer is the more apt as - off the back of 'Butter' nails - lemon French tips are the latest, must-have variation.
The look offers the perfect pop of subtle, summery colour and is already proving to be a favourite of nail artists and clients alike, so naturally, we're keen to add the hue to our own manicure rotation...
Lemon French tip nails are the sunny look we're seeing everywhere
Offering a surprisingly soft touch of colour to your look, lemon yellow is one shade we'll be seeing adorn many a French tip in the months to come.
As the name suggests, the pale colour mimics that of a lemon's skin and offers a slight and similarly understated variation on classic white tips - but of course, with an added lemony glow. The design is simple and ideal for minimalistic nail lovers and trend-chasers alike - not to mention it can be adapted to suit every nail shape, from squoval to elegant almond nails.

4 ways to wear a lemon yellow French tip
So, if you're feeling partial to these zingy yellow French tips, here are four ways we recommend wearing them...
If you're a lover of BIAB nails, lemon yellow tips perfectly compliment a cool-toned pink or pink-nude base colour, the likes of which are typically the core colours builder-in-a-bottle is available in. This means you can opt for a strong and long-wearing nail treatment alongside your summery pale yellow tips.
If you have short or square nails, this lemony hue will also work perfectly for more of a micro or short French tip nail look. This colour just adds a subtle hint of colour to the ends of your nails, without stealing focus from the rest of your attire.
If you're looking to elevate this manicure further, why not add a sheer, pearlescent chrome overtop? This 'lemon glaze' combination would be perfect for an occasion look or perhaps as a way to just change up your current lemon tips, mid-season.
And in-case you're tired of French tip variations, this lemony hue also lends itself perfectly to a half-moon manicure - the pairing of which adds the perfect dose of modern-chic to your look.
Start with a neutral base color, then draw a line a third of the way down your nails with a thin paintbrush in whatever shade you choose (Kandalec did a variation of colors across the models' nails that matched the collection, including a light teal and peach, for reference).
Ami suggests a rounded or square-oval shape for short nails and an almond shape for longer nails. Ami says to try and choose a base shade suitable for your skin tone, but if in doubt, simply opt for a clear polish. She adds that the finishing touch is a slim French tip in an off-white shade.
While a traditional French manicure combines a light pink or nude base color and bright white tips, a milky French manicure uses a sheer, creamy off-white base color that offers a very subtle contrast between the nail base and the tips. The effect is softer and more opaque than the classic French mani.
A sheer pink polish or a builder gel will achieve the most natural French manicured nails. Your skin tone should be the main focus when choosing a base shade; for example, rose-based shades are great for fair/light skin, whilst a deeper nude colour is better for dark skin.
“This summer, soft and delicate pastels will gain popularity with baby pink, mint green, and soft lemon leading the palette,” says Walton. It's fresh and fun for summertime without the intensity of the brights and neons we're used to seeing in the warm months.
The latest spin on the classic French manicure is a patriotic one: technically called the American French manicure, but it also goes by the moniker "muted French manicure." Whatever you want to call it, it's undeniably chic and elegant.
A fashionista's favorite, the almond nail shape is basically an elongated oval shape with slightly tapered sides and tip. This nail shape can elongate and slim your fingers and nail beds, making it an ultra-chic and sexy nail shape for just about anyone.
If you prefer a classic and elegant look, you may want to choose a round or oval shape. If you prefer a more edgy or dramatic look, you may want to choose a square, stiletto, or coffin shape.
Those with french manicures tend to prefer classic fashions more than trendy ones and have more reserved personalities than those with bolder nails (such as stiletto nails).
Put simply, the look is a french manicure with a translucent tip. The style is achieved using clear tips like Gel-X or builder gel on top of a natural nail. The base color of the nail can vary, but the tip needs to be clear in order to give the illusion of glass.
Milky French manicures create a muted contrast between the creamy white base and white tips. It's the same soft and sophisticated look that Jennifer Aniston wore recently.
The invisible French, however, uses negative space where color is classically used. “The negative space tip is definitely more minimal, yet it's also more eye-catching,” says Shelton. “It's popular year on year, but even more so in summer with pops of color being used to outline the tip.”
A French manicure is typically designed with a neutral base color and white accent color that is applied in a half-moon shape on the tip of each fingernail or nail extension.
When it comes to nail shapes, the latest trends for 2024 are all about making a statement. From the sharp and bold stiletto and coffin shapes to the elegant almond and deep square silhouettes, elongated nails are taking center stage.
Another nail trend for summer 2024 guaranteed to appeal to the minimalists out there is the transparent French: instead of opting for a stark contrast between a soft pink base layer and bright white tips, manicurists have been creating altogether softer, sheerer iterations with just a hint of a pale tip–often provided ...
However, there's one nail look that will always be popular and that's the humble French tip. Already named as one of the nail styles set to dominate this spring, the timeless French manicure transcends trend cycles and remains one of the most-requested looks in salons year-on-year. Why?
This month is all about embracing the winter season and its sleek elegance. Try a cool-toned gray or silver shade to create a modern andsophisticated manicure. Alternatively, go for a frosty blue or icy mint green hue to capture the crispness of the season.
